Final Major Project.

For my FMP I'm creating a five story anthology series based on popular British children's characters while turning them into horrifying monsters. Each story being based on different characters. With each story being about different characters I want each character to look massively different.

Initial inspiration

To find inspiration I looked at the game little nightmares which is a puzzle platform game we play as a girl who's trying to escape the monsters which is an allegory into growing into adulthood.

However I wanted to take inspiration from the monsters in the game and the style of the game.

For more research I wanted to look at iconic horror posters and use elements of them in my book especially as inspiration as my front cover.

another stylistic inspiration I wanted to look at was the illustrative style of Tim Burton. i really like how shapes and perspectives are used in his style and trying to use the fantasy elements that he has within my work.

The shapes and style of the illustrations have given my a stylistic queue to model the characters and scenes from.

As my story is for an older audience I also wanted to add more graphic elements to enhance the storytelling.  I also wanted to take inspiration for the buildings using the jagged and swirly textures throughout the story.

As children's television shows were my main inspiration i didn't want to copy the source material exactly, i wanted to go down a more weird and unusual route making them into horror.

my main inspirations were from old tv shows using mascots and puppets.having my parents show me these shows as a child puppets and mascots would actually frighten me.

My first character designs based of pudsey bear and while trying to make the character look more insane.

My first initial visuals I was inspired by the Tim Burton character design and visuals. before I started to plan the story out I wanted to have an idea on what a visual might look like.

I wanted design one of the characters based of this style using this as my first initial visual. taking elements of the curves and jagged edges.  I also wanted to turn the character into a monster making her look demented.

I also wanted to take inspiration from children's horror such as Coraline and Tim Burton and try to take elements from their styles while also using my own personal style as well.

In this early Coraline concept by Dan Krall we see other mother eat spiders in front of a frightened Coraline, this image using rather muted tones and unusual shapes captures the essence of what i will be creating. while also capturing the ridiculousness of my subject matter.

first initial book cover designs, I wanted to capture the scary vibe that I'm going for which is going to have a more mystical feel to the story.

I wanted to do the visuals of the first three stories while they are fresh in my head. I wanted to use the different styles and maybe change the order throughout.

I started to create an A5 mockup regarding the book,  I wanted to make a small plan of ideas of what I wanted to add in and to also see what it might look like once it's completed.

only having small amounts of type on each page,  either just having one word or a small sentence.

I wanted to also use visual comedy to help enhance the story some more. as comedy is a large part pf the storytelling.

The first set of visuals I wanted to take advantage of a limited colours, using dark and muted red and blue tones throughout the first story. while also having contrasting colours stand out.

My first attempt of my church I decided to create a rocky path with a church however after researching it isn't what I want to capture as it doesn't have the haunting aspect that I want it to have.

After looking at all the visuals I decided to create an atmostpheric piece inspired by Tim Burton while incorporating my own style as well.

As this is my second visual I'm going to use this one as it captures what I want to emulate.

After scanning in the first initial paintings I wanted to take them to procreate to enhance the colours and make other changes I want to make. throughout my process I change my mind many times until I'm happy with the outcomes.
